In September of 2024, Springboard participated in the 17th International Basic Income Week presenting a series of activities, events, and workshops to celebrate and share resources around Basic Income (also called Guaranteed Income). We partnered with community of like-minded organizations and artists on events throughout the week, including hilarious performances from Blackout Improv Comedy and the Funny Asian Women Collective (FAWK), a narrative storytelling workshop with McKnight Distinguished Artist Ricardo Levins Morales, and an artist-led open house in Fergus Falls with Kandace Creel Falcón, Jess Torgerson, and Torri Hanna. We closed the week out with a Family Day in partnership with the City of Saint Paul’s Office of Financial Empowerment and an adorable family of goats!
As part of the week, we unveiled a new exhibit called EXHALE: Reflections on Guaranteed Income, curated by Emerging Curators Institute and featuring powerful works by participants in our Guaranteed Income Pilot for Artists.
In participating in Basic Income Week, two things were abundantly clear – people power progress, and Basic Income isn’t just a nice idea. In our case, it can make all the difference in supporting an artist with a stronger safety net so they can pursue their practice, dream, rest, and exhale.
